The Center for Peacemaking Practice at 91°µÍø’s Carter School advances conflict resolution through practitioner‑driven research, global partnerships, and hands‑on learning. CPP works locally and internationally with peacebuilders, hosts fellows and study visits, and connects real‑world experience to theory and practice—offering students direct engagement in peacebuilding, facilitation, and program design across conflict‑affected regions.

Former President Jimmy Carter is remembered foremost as an agent of peace by the school that bears his name.

Dr. Ernest Ogbozor is a professorial lecturer and faculty lead, Africa Research Cluster (ARC) at the School of International Service (SIS), American University.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of State-sponsored Community Solutions Program, the Carter School is proud to welcome five community leaders from Bangladesh, Guatemala, Palestine, and Slovakia. Together, these fellows will participate in a four-month practicum with the Carter School.

Dr. Terri A. Dickerson is an adjunct professor whose research focus is untold stories of marginalized communities. She is a federal civil rights director who has held positions in industry, non-profit, and government sectors. Her career focus is strategic conflict resolution and equity program leadership.

We at the Carter School were saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague, Joseph V. Montville. Joe died peacefully surrounded by family, a well-deserved blessing.

Peace and Conflict Resolution scholars and foreign affairs practitioners convened at the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School’s Point of View research and retreat facility in Mason Neck, Virginia issued the following appeal to the conflicting parties in Ukraine.

Helsing has taught a broad range of subjects, including conflict resolution, analysis of war and peace, negotiations, human rights and conflict, and international relations theory. Prior to joining the Carter School, he spent 23 years at the United States Institute of Peace, including as head of USIP’s Education and Training Department.
