The Patriot Pathbreakers Award, established by Human Resources and the Staff Senate, honors high- performing staff teams that embody the 91���� value of “Thriving Together.” These innovative teams use individual talents to overcome obstacles and make progress toward their goals. They have adapted their services and processes when necessary to meet the changing needs of the Mason community. Their work makes Mason All Together Different.

91���� was recognized by the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) for being an outstanding system partner in managing and operationalizing the university's pandemic planning, response, and recovery.

91���� President Gregory Washington has announced the recipients of the 2023 Presidential Awards for Faculty Excellence, honoring 12 Mason faculty members for their work on behalf of the university, students, and the broader community.

As the student enrichment coordinator in 91����’s College of Education and Human Development, Caroline Masakayan helps organize a variety of student activities. She also supports student organizations and the college’s two learning communities. Outside of work, Masakayan volunteers as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA), helping children experiencing tough living situations, abuse, and neglect.

Darren Troxler has joined the Office of the Provost as the Executive Director of External Transfer Articulation and Chief Transfer Officer. He previously served as the Associate Dean of Admissions and Strategic Initiatives, Assistant Dean of Admissions, and Director of Admissions Operations in the Division of Enrollment Management supporting the university’s transfer enrollment.

Kathryn “Katy” Blackburn, a program assistant for Division of Education Leadership and Policy in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), is April Employee of the Month.

Cathy Pinskey, capital program director at 91����, has watched Mason’s square footage grow a lot over the years—by the millions. As capital program director with Mason Facilities, Pinskey has overseen the university’s largest and most complicated capital projects to date, including the Core Campus Project from 2016 to 2022, which revitalized the heart of the Fairfax Campus. Today, her main focus is Fuse at Mason Square, a new building currently under construction.
