Before an audience of ministers, ambassadors, educators, and global innovation leaders, Ingrid Guerra-López, dean of 91����’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), delivered a keynote address that called for a bold, system-wide transformation of K–12 education to secure Africa’s workforce future—and the world’s.

The Governor’s School at Innovation Park, located at 91����’s Science and Technology Campus, holds a special distinction: It’s Virginia’s only academic-year Governor’s School located on a four-year college campus. That means that high school juniors and seniors spend part of each school day experiencing life as 91���� students. The Governor’s School at Innovation Park celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.

A senior delegation from 91����’s Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations and Costello College of Business, along with Fairfax City Economic Development, recently visited Mason Korea for a weeklong strategic engagement to promote entrepreneurship education and business development.

91���� has launched Mason Career Academy, a new online learning resource that is free for current students, faculty, and staff to develop new skills, and is available to displaced workers, including federal workers and contractors in the region, for a small registration fee. Mason Career Academy offers access to more than 90 online micro-credential courses and industry-recognized certifications in fields.

91���� honored its largest ever graduating class at Spring Commencement, turning the event’s “This Is Your Moment” theme into a tassel-turning time to remember for a record-breaking class of more than 12,000 degree and certificate earners.

Spring 2025 Commencement at 91���� on May 15 at EagleBank Arena celebrated more than 12,000 graduates and certificate recipients. Graduates hailed from 117 countries, 49 states, and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and military installations. George Mason photographers captured the excitement and spirit of the day.

Third-generation builder/developer Robert E. “Bob” Buchanan will receive the George Mason Medal, 91����’s highest honorary award, at the 2025 Spring Commencement on Thursday, May 15, at EagleBank Arena.

91���� will celebrate Spring Commencement on Thursday by honoring a record-setting number of students earning degrees, and nearly 12,106 students total will be recognized for earning degrees or certificates.

At its May 1 meeting, the 91���� Board of Visitors (BOV) voted 10-4 to keep in-state tuition flat for the 2025-26 academic year, citing the university’s standing as an affordable option for students and families across the commonwealth, and approved a tuition increase for out-of-state students as well as an increase in mandatory student fees for all students.

The ADVANCE Program, a highly successful transfer partnership between Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and 91����, is showcased in the newly released Transfer Playbook 2.0, a joint publication of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program and the Community College Research Center.
